Baby Girl Cake

A perfect baby girl cake handmade by Tammy Q. from Lexington, SC. She'll tell you how she did it:

This is a pound cake baked in an 8x8x2 inch square.

It was frozen and carved into a pillow shape.

I iced it in buttercream and then covered it with white fondant.

I added fondant details, and buttercream roses and vines.

The baby is all fondant as is the pacifier and bottle. All handmade.

Here is an awesome pound cake recipe:

3 cups cake flour(or use 3 Tbsp. corn starch and add flour to make 1 C.)
6 large eggs
1 Pound Butter, softened
1 Pound Sugar
2 tsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 C.Buttermilk
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Baking Powder

Sift the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Add salt and sugar, mix, then add butter. Add the eggs. Then remaining ingredients. Mix well with your mixer.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

Oil and flour your pan, tapping extra flour out of the pan.

Pour the mix in, bake for an hour to an hour and a half. Watch closely. To see if the cake is done, stick a toothpick in the middle and make sure it comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool 15 or 20 minutes in the pan.

Have you tried using a silicone pan? It's very cool. Click here to see a square pan you could use to make your baby girl cake.
