Baby Shower Sheet Cake

Thank you to Brittany Scholler for submitting her darling baby shower sheet cake into the 2008 baby cakes contest. She shares her instructions for making her sweet creation...

I started by making a half sheet cake. I then made a mousse filling and filled the cake after trimming the cake and leveled it.

I put a thin layer of buttercream on the cake to seal in the crumbs. Then I used buttercream to outline the seams of the blanket and then began filling in the outline with small stars.

Ahead of time I made the pieces to go on the cake. I made them out of color flow.

I got the templates online in picture galleries, printed them, and traced them on parchment paper. I covered the outlines with waxed paper. I then outlined them with stiff royal icing. Then I thinned out the icing and filled them in.

I let them dry for a day.

I outlined the cake in a shell border and then made rosettes to place the safety pins on.

Amazon.com carries Wilton color flow for a baby shower sheet cake like Brittany's.
