Pea in a Pod Cake
Very sweet Pea in A Pod Cake, created by Alesha GuechatiI from Bel Alton, MD.
I used 2 sheet cake pans and the Wilton ball pan to make 3 1/2 balls (the peas). To decorate, I iced the bottom sheet cake with butter cream, then covered it with white fondant. Then I cut different size circles out of green fondant and randomly placed them on the sheet cake. Next, I used wax paper and made a "stencil" for a pod. I used the stencil to cut a pod shape out of the 2nd sheet cake. I placed the pod on top of the covered sheet cake. Next I placed the three 1/2 balls on top of the pod. I iced one with butter cream then covered it with skin colored fondant. This made the baby's head.
I used two differnt shades of green to pipe butter cream onto the other two peas and the pod. The peas were slightly lighter than the pod. The hardest part was making the eye lashes on the face. I rolled tiny pieces of black fondant and made the eyes look closed with long eye lashes. I also used rolled black fondant to make the mouth.
The edges of the cake did not look finished, so I used more green fondant and rolled two long pieces. Then I twisted them together like rope and wrapped them around the bottom edge of the cake. None of this was very difficult, it just took hours.
